Project Online Date: April - 2008

Project Briefing:

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is being built in Saudi Arabia as an international, graduate-level research university dedicated to inspiring a new age of scientific achievement in the Kingdom that will also benefit the region and the world.
In order to execute that huge structure within the assigned timeframe, it was a must to furnish enough temporary facilities to be used by the construction companies.

Client Requirements:

It was recommended to provide 8,000 CuM/D sewage treatment plant in order to treat the wastes produced during the construction period. The effluent water has to be within high environmental quality in order to be discharged to the red sea, while part of this effluent shall be used in the construction works.

AES Solution:

AES determined to use flat membrane technique for this plant. The design solution was to build four equal streams each one can treat 2,000 CuM/D and those will receive the sewage from distribution chamber.
The plant already provided with mechanical pre-treatment plant as the first treatment stage.
The plant is also containing several dosing systems in both pre treatment and effluent sides.
Furthermore, high level instrumentation and automation systems have been provided to maintain the required driving system

Conclusion and Results:

Plant is producing effluent with high quality with the following specifications:
Chlorine       0.2 mg/l
Nitrate         3 mg/l
Ammonia      0.0027`mg/l
TSS              < 5 mg/
l BOD5         < 1 mg/l
