Project Briefing:

Durrat Al Bahrain is one of the world’s most distinctive island cities and one of the finest examples of contemporary urban planning in the world today. It is luxury living and a holiday destination at the same time and it will become one of the GCC region’s most outstanding places to live and work.
It is the creation new city that will offer its residents, visitors and businesses a contemporary urban lifestyle set across the 15 inter-connected islands that make up Durrat Al Bahrain. The iconic architecture of the city will be set against the necklace shape of the islands, its waterways, pristine white sand beaches and crystal clear sea.

Client Requirements:

The landscaped areas of Durrat Al Bahrain, included the golf course will be irrigated by water from a seawater desalination plant to be constructed at resort. Treatment facilities will be located on the mainland away from the occupied areas of the resort.
Total project capacity is 36,000 CuMD, but it will be executed on three phases each is 12,000 CuM/D.
Although effluent water will be used for irrigation purposes, but it must have the quality of potable water, considering that future bottling water is planned to use this water.

AES Solution:

Unique design has been developed by AES designers to suite the entire phases of the sea water treatment plant.
The big challenge was to fit the huge amount of those equipments in the assigned narrow location. The big sized modules, filters, pumps and other equipments were distributed skillfully inside the assigned frame after ensuring also enough spaces for operating and maintenance.
The plant was designed to be operated fully automatically with minimum interference required by the operators.  

Conclusion and Results:

First production is expected to be on July 2008. Another sections will be built and operated consequently in parallel with the irrigational needs of the resort.
