Blow Down Tank

Blow Down Tank

Suspended solids can be kept in suspension as long as the boiler water is agitated, but as soon as the agitation stops, they will fall to the bottom of the boiler. If they are not removed, they will accumulate and will inhibit heat transfer from the boiler fire tubes which will overheat and may even fail. Blowdown water from boiler is directed to the blow down tank.  A cooling device should be fitted to the vessel if the hot water temperature cause the outlet temperature at the blowdown exceed the permissible limit. The blow down tank reduces the temperature of the bottom blowdown water to a temperature that would be safe for the sewer system.
